Rhinestone Application, Set by Hand and Heat
Rhinestone application adds crystal embellishment that catches light in a way no ink or thread can. Each stone is heat-set into a precise position from a plotted template, which is how a rhinestone design stays aligned across a whole production run.
What rhinestone application actually is
Rhinestones are heat-set crystals with a glue backing. A template is plotted from your artwork, the stones are placed into it, and a heat press bonds the whole design to the garment in one pass.
The visual effect is entirely about light. A rhinestone design looks different under stage lighting, daylight and camera flash, which is why it remains standard on dancewear, performance costume and occasion pieces rather than everyday basics.
Design resolution is set by stone size. Common sizes run from SS6 (about 2mm) to SS20 (about 5mm). Smaller stones allow finer curves but multiply both stone count and placement labour, which is the main cost driver.

Where it is the wrong choice
Heavy-wash workwear, high-abrasion sportswear and anything that will be tumble dried hard. Rhinestones are bonded to the surface, so sustained mechanical stress will eventually lift stones. They are an embellishment, not a workwear marking method.
From your artwork to a finished garment
Design plotting
Your artwork is converted into stone positions at a chosen size. Curves are resolved into stone placements, which is where the design either holds or does not.
Template build
A physical template is produced so every garment in the run receives an identical layout rather than a hand-guessed one.
Heat setting
Stones are transferred and bonded under controlled heat and pressure, set once for the whole design rather than stone by stone.
Inspect
Each piece is checked for missing stones, alignment and adhesive bleed before packing.
Rhinestones questions, answered
Thirty pieces per style, the same as every other technique we run. Because a template is plotted once per design, the setup is shared across the run, so cost per piece drops meaningfully as quantity rises.
Not with correct care. Heat-set stones bonded at the right temperature hold through normal washing, but they should be washed cold, inside out, and air dried rather than tumble dried. We supply care guidance with every rhinestone order because this genuinely determines how long the design lasts.
SS10 to SS16 covers most apparel designs. Smaller stones such as SS6 let you resolve finer curves and small lettering, but the stone count and placement labour rise sharply. We will advise on the smallest size your design actually needs rather than the smallest available.
Yes, and combinations usually look more considered than rhinestones alone. A printed or embroidered base with rhinestone accents is a common treatment on dancewear and occasion pieces. Everything is done under one roof here, so combining methods does not mean adding a second vendor.
